Dr. Leonard A. FarberDr. Leonard A. Farber (Radiation Oncologist): A Board Certified physician in Radiation Oncology, Dr. Farber has been in private practice for over a decade, recently serving as Chairman of Radiation Oncology at Staten Island University Hospital. Dr. Farber specializes in adult radiation oncology, with particular focus on breast and gastrointestinal malignancies, lymphomas, lung cancers, and head and neck cancers. He has expertise in HDR brachytherapy for various types of cancers, including breast, skin, and gynecologic malignancies, and intracranial and body radiosurgery.

After receiving his B.S. and B.A. at the State University of New York at Binghamton, Dr. Farber pursued his M.D. at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York. Following an internship in internal medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, he did his residency in Radiation Oncology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Farber is a member of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, the American College of Radiation Oncology, the American Radium Society, the American Brachytherapy Society, the American Medical Society, the International Society of Gastrointestinal Oncology, the New York Cancer Society, the New York Metropolitan Breast Cancer Group, the New York Head & Neck Society, and several others.
Dr. Farber’s published writings and lectures have focused on HDR brachytherapy, pancreatic and bile duct cancers, head and neck cancer, breast cancer, Positron Emission Therapy (PET), and cardiovascular radiation. He has served as principal investigator on many clinical trials and has been on the forefront of the HDR treatment for various types of malignant and benign conditions.

    Dr Farber is the best Radiation Oncologist I have ever had the pleasure to meet. He makes each and every patient feel like a close friend or family member. Excellence comes from the top down, and Dr Farber’s medical skills, knowledge and attention to detail is exceptional!
    Finally NYC has a State of the Art Cancer Center that its patients deserve.

  7. Hey Dr. Farber…Happy Thanksgiving! I’ve been enjoying the photos of your family and have been watching the progress of your center. I am so proud of you and I feel profoundly fortunate to have been your patient. Been being the operative word . A friend in Oregon’s 7 year old grandson with Stage IV Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma is flying into Memorial Sloan on 12/27 from Oregon for radiation. I haven’t said anything to them, but is there any way you could just take a look? I don’t know how this stuff works…
